TEHRAN – MP Parviz Sorouri of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has said that the explosion which hit three gas pipelines near the holy city of Qom on Friday was an obstructionistic action carried out by terrorists with the aim of undermining the national security.
An explosion ripped through three 56-inch (142-centimeter) diameter gas pipelines on Friday around the town of Delijan in the central province of Qom.The blast temporarily disrupted gas delivery from refineries in southern Iran to the north and northwest.
Terrorist groups are seeking to undermine the national security through planning acts of sabotage, so the Intelligence Ministry and National Police should take appropriate measures and tighten security around the pipelines, Sorouri told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.
“The enemies of the Islamic Revolution are organizing the terrorist groups to conduct bombing operations and assassination in an attempt to divert the attention of nations away from sweeping developments ongoing in the region,” he said.
The lawmaker also announced that the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee will hold a special meeting with the representatives of the Oil Ministry, Intelligence Ministry, and National Police to examine the security of the national pipelines.
